Boleslawiec. Festival of Culture and Art

On April 16 (28), 1813, Mikhail Illarionovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov died here. By order of Tsar Alexander I, Kutuzov’s body was embalmed and delivered to St. Petersburg, and the internal organs remaining after embalming were buried by the commander’s adjutant Montresor and other close associates of Kutuzov in a cemetery near the village of Tillendorf, three kilometers from Bunzlau.
After the liberation of Bunzlau by the Red Army in 1945, it passed to Poland and became known as Boleslawiec. The soldiers of the Soviet Army who recaptured the city placed a slab with the text at the foot of the Kutuzov monument.
