Lodz is one of the cities in Poland. The city is located in the center of the country, 120 kilometers southwest of Warsaw, and is the center of the Polish electronics industry. Founded in the 13th century, city status since 1423; During the Russian Empire, the city was the center of the Lodz district, which was part of the Petrokov province (in 1867-1917). Since 1999, Lodz has been the center and largest city of the Lodz Voivodeship. The city's population is 696.5 thousand people and is gradually declining (1988 - 854 thousand). Back in the 1990s, Lodz was the second most populous city in Poland after Warsaw, but in the 2000s it lost this place to Krakow. In 1945-1948, Lodz actually served as the capital of the Polish Republic in the conditions of the almost complete destruction of Warsaw.
