Zielona Gora is located in western Poland, on the slope of the Odra River valley where it crosses the range of hills known as Wal Zielonogorski. Geographically, it is located in the South Baltic Lake District subprovince. From the north-west, the city borders with Niecka Plotowska, and from the north-east with Niecka Chynowska.
The city is located on the international road and rail route connecting Scandinavia with southern Europe. They are 130 km from Poznań, 160 km from Wrocław, 160 km from Berlin, 290 km from Prague, and 413 km from Warsaw.
